Embedded Flash for IoT, Industrial and Instrumentation Devices
When flash is designed into a product rather than plugged into it, the buying criteria change completely. You need a defined part with known silicon, a controller solution that the host will enumerate reliably, mechanical dimensions that fit your enclosure, and a supply plan that lasts as long as the product does. WINTEL supplies UDP modules at 11.3 × 24.8 × 1.45 mm and semi-finished boards at 12 × 44 × 4.5 mm, 128MB to 128GB, USB 2.0 or 3.0, with controllers from Alcor, ITE, Xinbang and Micov in QFN, 24-pin, 48-pin and COB packages. Send us your host interface, clearance and capacity requirement for a specification you can design against.
What this buyer actually cares about
A part you can design against
Embedded buyers do not want a catalogue number that changes. They need defined dimensions, a defined interface and a documented controller solution before they commit a PCB layout.
Host compatibility
Enumerating correctly on the host is not guaranteed by capacity alone. Controller selection is what makes the difference between a design that boots first time and one that does not.
Long-term availability
NAND suppliers discontinue packages on their own timetable. A design with a five-year life needs a supply plan, not just a current price.
Batch consistency across production runs
Mixed silicon inside one production batch creates failures that are difficult to diagnose and expensive to trace in the field.
Mechanical fit
Sub-millimetre differences matter when the part sits inside a sealed enclosure with no connector access.
What we do about it
- Supply UDP modules and semi-finished boards with published dimensions
- Select the controller solution against your host requirements
- Provide the specification and drawing for your design review
- Offer both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 interface versions
- Discuss long-term supply planning for products with a multi-year life
Recommended configuration
A starting point drawn from the workloads buyers in this scenario describe. We confirm the exact specification against your bitrate, host and target date rather than quoting a generic figure.
| Dimension | Recommended starting point |
|---|---|
| Capacity | UDP 128 MB–32 GB typical; full 128 MB–128 GB range |
| Speed | USB 2.0 suffices for most; USB 3.0 where the host needs it |
| Flash grade | A+ grade, controller matched to your host |
Common procurement risks
What buyers in this scenario most often get wrong — and how we address it.
- Controller not enumerating reliably on your specific host
- NAND package discontinued mid product life
- Sub-millimetre mechanical fit inside a sealed enclosure
- Mixed silicon causing field failures that are hard to trace
Buyer checklist
- Confirm your workload (bitrate, retention window, duty cycle) before specifying capacity
- Match the speed class to the actual workload, not a marketing number
- Ask for the silicon source and grade in writing before you commit
- Request a physical sample and approve it before bulk production
- Confirm MOQ, lead time and Incoterms in the written quotation
Products for this application
Tell us your workload, target capacity and the date you need material — and, if you have it, your bitrate or retention requirement. We will come back with a specification and a schedule rather than a generic price list.
Send your requirementFrequently asked questions
What does UDP mean — is it a network protocol?
No. In this context UDP = USB Disk in Package: a complete USB flash device on a small board, soldered onto your PCB. It has nothing to do with User Datagram Protocol.
Which controller will be used in my design?
We select from Alcor, ITE, Xinbang and Micov, in QFN, 24-pin, 48-pin or COB packages. Send your host requirements and we will propose the matched solution before you commit a layout.
Can you supply a drawing and specification?
Yes. Send your integration requirements — host interface, capacity, speed, mechanical clearance — and we will provide the specification and drawing for design review.
What happens if the NAND package we use gets discontinued?
It is a real risk across the industry — major suppliers have announced end-of-life for several NAND packages. Tell us your expected production life when you enquire and we will discuss how to plan for it.
What is the minimum order quantity for embedded parts?
MOQ depends on capacity, controller solution and whether customisation is involved. Send your specification and we will confirm MOQ with the quotation.
