Can you build to our own PCB design or product design?

In short

Yes, for UDP modules and semi-finished boards, which are sold as designs rather than catalogue items. You bring the design and the placement requirements; we build against it and confirm the parts that decide what you receive — host interface, capacity, mechanical length, controller matched to your host, whether the part carries a device identity, and the reflow profile it has to survive. We do not redesign your part or quietly substitute a component. Where your design needs a decision from us, we raise it in writing against the quotation, which is the only way a build stays reproducible across repeat batches.

What we need from you

A design becomes buildable when these are fixed. They are also the list we quote against.

  • The PCB file and placement data, with any reference-design constraints noted.
  • Host interface version and the host firmware or operating system it has to enumerate on.
  • Required capacity and the endurance the workload actually needs.
  • Mechanical constraints: length, width, height and any position that has to clear a housing.
  • The reflow profile your assembly line runs, since the part has to survive it.

What we confirm before building

These are the six things that decide what you actually get, and they are stated in the quotation rather than inferred from a conversation.

ItemWhy it cannot be assumed
Host interface versionDetermines the firmware and the host compatibility testing that follows
CapacityQuoted in usable terms after formatting, not nominal size
Mechanical dimensionsThe stated 11.3 × 24.8 × 1.45 mm applies to the standard part, not to a custom one
Controller solutionMust be matched to your host and workload; a different one changes behaviour
Device identityWhether the part carries a serial or identity, which matters for tracking and support
Reflow profileSets whether the part survives your line; agreed before tooling, not after failure

How a custom build stays reproducible

A one-off design is easy. Holding it across repeat batches is the part buyers get wrong, usually years into a programme.

  • The approved configuration is documented against the order, not kept in someone’s head.
  • Silicon grade and controller are held at the same source for repeat batches, or any change is agreed in writing.
  • A sample from each batch is kept and compared against the approved reference.
  • If the design changes, the quotation is re-issued. A silent design change is indistinguishable from a quality problem.

Frequently asked questions

Will you change our design for us?

No. We build to your design. If something in it will not work on our line, we raise it in writing with the reason, and you decide whether to amend it.

Can you substitute a component if one is unavailable?

Only with your written agreement, and only with the substitution written into the order. An unagreed substitution is exactly how a repeat batch stops being the same part.

Do custom designs have a higher minimum order quantity?

Usually, because building to a design is not a stock item. The minimum is confirmed against your configuration in the quotation rather than quoted as a general figure.

Can you work from a reference design instead of a finished file?

Send whatever exists — a reference design, a sketch, a mating housing. What we need to quote is the interface, the capacity and the mechanical constraints, not a complete file.

Working on a specification?

Send us the product type, capacity, quantity and target date. We reply to business enquiries within 1 business day.
